Any medical school is high-cost , time consuming and needs a lot of effort. You might not see a medical student or dental student enjoying as much as students of other stream. I might not say that they never enjoy, or that each and every student is as dedicated as the one who really are.

Comparing medical and dental stream, as I am not much aware about medical student , I must only mention the dental stream. But I must mention that Dental syllabus include both the dental as well as the medical subjects. Medical subjects are must for dental students. We not only read about anatomy of human but also anatomy of each any every single teeth from very 20 primary to 32 permanent. And yes every single teeth have different anatomy. You can't ever interchange the upper front two teeth. MBBS includes a lot of knowledge, you might choose in between surgery or medicine. If you are not  so good with hands, you might ignore every surgery. But as a dental student you need to know how to remove carries , how to prepare a cavity, these are the basics one must know. We are taught to operate an awake human with moving tongue and drooling saliva with a sharp rotating cutting instrument. The amount of concentration and presence of mind it takes is something that only a dentist or surgeon may understand. Even a lot of medical surgery are performed under complete anesthesia where the patient is put to sleep. And also the materials used in dental treatment are not as cheap as they seem. For a normal crown placement the have to use number of instruments and m materials behind you. That seems unnecessary to alot of people but the procedure can't be performed without these steps. I might include the steps and materials needed for crown placement and denture making in normal words for you all to understand.

There are a lot of technicians that are easily available for dental treatment with low cost, they might provide a basic structural and functional crown or filling , but one must be aware of them. Let me tell you how they have reached where they are right now. They have worked under a properly educated and trained dentist for few months or years , and after learning the basics they would have started a clinic without recognition with almost same treatment but at cheaper value. He may provide you with basic faciliteis, but remember he will never be responsible for any bad happening neither will his licence be revoked. Cause he does not own it. The government never allowed him to treat, you allowed. They never practiced on the typho(mannequin) as we have before performing on patients.

Allowing them to perform a dental treatment can raise another and bigger reason to visit a properly recognized and registered dentist. This might cost you even more. One of a common slang used in our profession " Prevention is better than cure" and you might have heard " One stitch saves nine stitches".
